What is fatigue?
Fatigue is a feeling of lack of energy that often reduces the ability to perform activities of daily living. Also, it is called fatigue when the muscles have a hard time moving to perform activities.
In general, fatigue is not usually a sign of something serious, however, when it is present for a very long period of time, it is advisable to consult a specialist.
What causes fatigue?
Fatigue can be provoked by different causes, among the most common are:
– Anemia or improper nutrition. Anemia is a condition that occurs when a person does not have enough iron in the blood. Likewise, when there is a deficient nutrition in vitamins, minerals and proteins. Therefore, it is recommended that you eat properly, trying to make your diet balanced.
Sleep disorders such as: insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea (cessation of breathing or equal to 10 sec., very common in obese people) or narcolepsy (despite sleeping 8 or 9 hours, the person has excessive sleepiness during the day plus the tendency to fall asleep anywhere and at any time).
Pain. When a person is exposed for a prolonged period of time to pain. It can range from mild to high.
Allergies that cause asthma.
Hypothyroidism. Low blood pressure usually has sporadic tiredness as one of its symptoms. If you frequently find yourself tired, check your blood pressure levels, so you don’t count on low blood pressure.
Alcohol consumption. Too much alcohol can also lead to a feeling of tiredness throughout the body. Remember not to drink too much to prevent it from happening to you.
Depression. When someone is depressed it is common to have a constant feeling of tiredness, this can be caused by antidepressants or simply by the mere condition you have.
-Medications. Certain types of medications can have a side effect of prolonged fatigue in the person taking them.
Long working hours. Fatigue can also manifest itself when working for a very long period of time, this is due to physical or mental effort.
There are many other factors that can also cause fatigue, here we have only mentioned the most common ones.
If the person does not have any of the above characteristics, it is very likely that the person suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome. (CFS). This syndrome tends to occur more often in women and in an age range of 30 to 50 years.
In order to be considered as CFS, the person must be unable to perform 50% of their daily activities. That is, activities that you used to do easily and seemingly effortlessly, suddenly become very difficult and you often end up with intense fatigue or simply can’t finish them at all.
