Healthy resolutions for this New Year

We propose a list of good resolutions for the new year, so you can make sure you don’t put your health at risk.

You’ve probably come to the same conclusion we have: good health is the most important thing of all. That’s why, to modify all those unwise habits that you have incurred in the past year and so that health accompanies you throughout 2018, we propose a list of ten healthy resolutions for this year that begins.

Get more exercise

One of the pillars of a healthy and active life is sport. No matter how old you are, there is something for all tastes and adaptable to all physical conditions. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day a minimum of three days a week and you will notice the benefits not only in your body, but also in your mind.

In addition to the improvement of your physical shape, the strengthening of your bones, the control of excess weight or the increase in the mobility of your joints, you will also feel a sense of satisfaction with yourself that is caused by the release of endorphins that is produced in the practice of sport. The aggressiveness and stress accumulated in the working day will be reduced in a proportion inversely proportional to the increase in your self-esteem and general well-being. If you were thinking about it but you couldn’t make up your mind, it’s time to join the gym, you’ll see that it’s not so bad and little by little you’ll get hooked.

Quitting smoking

The start of a new year is the perfect time to stand up and find the willpower to quit smoking. Or would you rather keep smelling of smoke, have to go outside to smoke in the cold in the middle of a lively meal with friends, or have yellow teeth and hands? Surely not. Moreover, it is not only a social or aesthetic issue, think that mainly the reasons to extinguish the cigarette forever are medical: the chances of getting cancer, COPD or bronchitis among others are shot in smokers.

For all these reasons it is one of the essential resolutions to start the year.

Managing stress

With what’s going on, everyone is on edge. Not letting stress and anxiety get the better of us is vital to lead a full life. Take control of your life and learn how to prevent stress with the following techniques.

Try to take work differently and not make it “the only priority in your life”. Do you know the word ‘delegate’? Use it whenever possible. Organize your time better, that way your stress will be reduced and you will have space to enjoy things you had forgotten. And don’t forget to take a well-deserved vacation. But of course, don’t make these another source of stress. Remember that they are there to forget about everything, rest and recharge your batteries. And if all else fails, nature has remedies for you (valerian, lavender…).

Eating better

Obesity and overweight are one of the great epidemics of this century. It is in your hands and on your plates to face it. Following a healthy and balanced diet is not synonymous with eating green or tasteless. Whether it’s spoon dishes, sweets or even drinks, there are always healthy alternatives to spice up your life. No matter how old you are, it is important that you follow a diet appropriate to your age and nutritional needs, especially if you suffer from any illness that makes you take special care.

Of course, stay away from miracle products and diets and ignore false myths that will only lead you to fall into an eating disorder. Ah! And don’t forget that just as important as eating well is staying well hydrated.

Get regular medical checkups

Health comes first, but problems don’t always show up with clear symptoms. Or if they do, we often skip going to the doctor out of laziness or because we don’t think it’s important. Big mistake. We’re not saying that you should go to the emergency room at the drop of a hat, but it’s a good idea to go to the doctor when your common sense tells you to. At least once a year it never hurts to have a general medical check-up (either at work or on your own), visit the optician or check the condition of your teeth.

It is especially important to have check-ups if you are over 50 to prevent prostate cancer, breast cancer, etcetera. In addition, if you are going to undertake a new sporting activity or have had a previous health problem in the form of an injury, it is advisable to undergo a sports medical examination beforehand.

On the other hand, having a basic knowledge of health and first aid will help you to deal better and faster with any health problem that may arise for you or anyone around you. If in doubt, you can find the answer in the opinion of our experts.

Caring for the environment

As important as taking care of yourself is taking care of your surroundings. Something that will have a direct impact on your well-being and that of your loved ones. Global warming is not an invention, nor has it come out of nowhere, and it entails serious health problems for humanity. It is in our hands to avoid it. That’s why it’s a good idea to learn how to recycle properly, how to save energy – not only for your pocket but also to avoid using up the planet’s resources – and how to avoid polluting as much as possible, including noise pollution.

Because, in addition, nature is not only wise but also generous, and has numerous remedies to offer us in the form of medicinal plants. For all these reasons, we hope that 2017 will be a little greener.

Pay attention to our hygiene

While it is true that many mothers sin excessively in this sense of overprotection with children, as we get older some healthy habits in terms of hygiene are neglected. This can encourage the proliferation of unwanted infections and diseases.

Therefore, it is important to be aware of this aspect and be more vigilant about our hygiene, both oral and intimate, and so on. Especially if you are pregnant. And of course, take the utmost care sexually to avoid contracting and spreading any sexually transmitted infections.

Let’s not forget our kitchen either, with cases such as salmonellosis, E. coli or the usual cases of anisakiasis on the order of the day, it is worth remembering the importance of following a correct food hygiene.

Time for yourself

A good massage, meditation, yoga or a visit to a spa. Recharge your energy by escaping with your bike, swimming peacefully or receiving a reiki session. It is equally important that you also take care of yourself on the outside: laser hair removal, cellulite, alopecia…, remedy them before it’s too late and you will feel better about yourself.

Because self-esteem is one of the central axes on which health revolves. Keep your motivation high in everything you do and always look for new goals and rewards to keep your body, mind and spirit active. And don’t forget to smile all the time, to the bad weather good face.
